Woman Who Gave “Extremely High” Drink Driving Reading Spared Jail

Sep 10, 2021

A Northamptonshire woman has been spared jail, despite being seen swerving across the road while drink driving at over three times the legal limit.

Police witnessed the 30-year-old’s erratic driving at around 2am on August 7.

On pulling the car over officers found there to be another passenger in the car, and the driver gave a reading of 123mcg alcohol per 100ml breath. The legal limit for drink driving is 35mcg.

Northampton magistrates deemed her offence worthy of a custodial sentence due to the “extremely high” level of alcohol in her system, the poor standard of driving, and the fact that she had a passenger in the car.

They decided to suspend the jail term, however, believing she may benefit from rehabilitation.

After pleading guilty to drink driving she was sentenced to 15 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months and banned from driving for 30 months. She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £128.
