Woman Caught Drink Driving Hours After Being Disqualified for the Same Offence

May 29, 2026

A Swindon woman has been sentenced after being caught drink driving less than 24 hours after receiving a disqualification for an identical offence.

Disqualified in the Morning, Back Behind the Wheel by Evening

On Wednesday 28 May 2026, Ellie Watson appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court and was disqualified from driving for two years following a drink driving offence committed in April. Within 24 hours of that hearing, she was stopped by PC Head in Ocotal Way, Swindon, having consumed a bottle of wine before getting into her vehicle.

Watson recorded a roadside breath reading of 109 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, and subsequently blew 95 in custody. The legal limit in England and Wales is 35 microgrammes.

Three Charges and a Remand into Custody

Following her arrest, Watson was charged with drink driving, driving whilst disqualified, and driving without insurance. She was remanded into custody ahead of her court appearance.

Sentencing

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 28 May 2026, Watson, 27, of Church Walk North, Swindon, received an eight-week custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months. She was disqualified from driving for 42 months and made subject to a 12-month community order, including 15 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days.

Police Response

PC Head from the Dogs Section commented on the case: “Watson’s actions are absolutely appalling and show absolutely no consideration or respect for other road users. Drink driving can and does kill and to be caught almost immediately after being disqualified for an identical previous offence is completely unacceptable. She is now disqualified from driving for the next three and a half years, and if she is caught again then she is liable to be sent to prison.”
