Wisbech Woman Faces Driving Ban After Routine Police Stop

May 19, 2024

Holly Nash, a 37-year-old resident of Wisbech, is facing significant hardship after being caught drink-driving during a routine police stop. On March 27, Nash was driving along Lynn Road in Walsoken when she was pulled over by officers. During the stop, police detected the smell of alcohol on her breath, leading to a failed roadside breath test.

Nash was subsequently arrested and taken into custody, where she provided an evidential breath sample showing 43 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35 micrograms.

Despite there being no issues with her driving, Nash appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to the offense. Duty solicitor George Sorrell highlighted that her breath test reading was relatively low and that she had no prior relevant convictions. He also emphasized that there were no aggravating factors such as an accident or poor driving.

Nash presented a written plea explaining her reasons for drinking and her presence at her friend’s place, which Sorrell described as detailed and eloquent. The court imposed a mandatory 12-month driving ban on Nash but offered her the opportunity to reduce this by 12 weeks if she completed a drink-driving rehabilitation course by December.

In addition to the driving ban, Nash was fined £80, ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge, and £40 in court costs.
