A man from Wilmslow has been found guilty of both drink-driving and drug-driving at Stockport Magistrates court after police saw him driving erratically on the Silk Road in Macclesfield.
Police Officer PC Robinson told the court how on March 24, 2017, he was driving behind an Isuzu Trooper driven by builder David John Chadwick, and saw it veering from side to side. He followed the vehicle for a period before ordering it to pull over on Prestbury Lane, Macclesfield. He noticed the smell of cannabis and alcohol on Chadwick, and subsequent tests showed him to be over the prescribed limit for both substances.
During the trial, Chadwick insisted that PC Robinson did not follow protocol by informing him that failure to comply with testing procedure would incriminate him. PC Robinson refuted this, stating he had followed his training in such matters to the letter.
Magistrates did not find Chadwick’s evidence sufficient and found in favour of PC Robinson’s testimony.
They found Chadwick guilty on both charges of drink-driving and drug-driving, banning him from the roads for 16 months. He was also fined £150 for each offence and to pay £680 in costs, along with a £30 victim surcharge.
