Two West Yorkshire Police Officers Face Charges in Bradford Court

Nov 15, 2024

Two police officers from West Yorkshire appeared at Bradford Magistrates’ Court, facing separate charges relating to serious offences, including drink-driving and perverting the course of justice. Both have been suspended from duty as investigations continue.

Officer Admits to Drink-Driving Offence

Abdul Iqbal, aged 29, of Russel Street in Dewsbury, pleaded guilty to drink-driving. He was stopped in the Calder Grove area of Wakefield and found to have 66 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, nearly double the legal limit. Mr Iqbal also admitted to failing to provide driver identification for a separate incident on 5th August.

He is scheduled to appear at Bradford Crown Court on 16th December for sentencing.

Allegations of Conspiring to Pervert Justice

In an unrelated case, Aisha Iqbal, aged 27, of Buxton Place in Wakefield, also appeared in court. She faces charges of conspiring to pervert the course of justice between 17th May and 31st October 2023. Although she did not have legal representation, Ms Iqbal indicated her intention to plead not guilty.

Her case has also been referred to Bradford Crown Court, where she is due to appear on the same date as Abdul Iqbal.

Officers Suspended Pending Investigation

Both officers have been suspended from their roles within the force, with West Yorkshire Police conducting internal investigations alongside the legal proceedings. These incidents have raised concerns about conduct and accountability within the force.

Further updates are expected following the hearings at Bradford Crown Court next month.
