A motorcyclist who crashed his bike while drink driving last year has appeared before North Tyneside magistrates for that offence as well as another in his car just six months later.
The 36-year-old’s first offence took place in August last year when police attended a single-vehicle accident in Wallsend. The uninsured driver was taken to hospital where he was found to have 102mcg alcohol per 100ml blood. The legal limit is 80mcg.
Prosecuting the second case, Sarah Malkinson told the court: “On February 17 2022, at around 11pm, officers were travelling along Middle Engine Lane and their attention was drawn to the defendant’s Vauxhall Astra.
“He was approaching the roundabout at Battle Hill. The driver’s window was heavily tinted, so officers indicated for him to stop. He was asked to do a breath test, which he provided.”
The second reading gave a result of 80mcg alcohol per 100ml breath. The legal limit for drink driving is 35mcg. The man, who lost both his parents in an accident when he was younger but now works offshore, also has a previous drink driving conviction from 2005 as well as seven other offences.
After pleading guilty to drink driving the man was banned from driving for three years and ordered to pay a fine of £1,416, £170 costs, and a £140 victim surcharge.
