A 41-year-old woman has appeared before magistrates in Cheltenham after police caught her drink driving for the second time this year.
The court heard that the defendant was first stopped on February 7 this year where she gave a reading of 61mcg alcohol per 100ml breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
Police then caught her again on September 17 near Cinderford where she gave a reading of 140mcg alcohol per 100ml breath – exactly four times the legal drink driving limit.
In addition to the drink driving offences, the woman also admitted to having no valid test certificate at the time of her first offence and neither licence nor insurance during the second.
Magistrates said they imposed a prison sentence due to the high alcohol reading, the fact that the two offences happened within a few months of each other, and the fact that she was still on bail for the first offence when she committed the second.
They added that her sentence was suspended due to her previous good character with a “realistic prospect of rehabilitation”, and that an immediate custodial sentence would have a significant impact on her two young children.
After pleading guilty to drink driving and other offences, the magistrates imposed a sentence of 18 weeks in prison for twelve months and banned her from driving for five years.
The woman must also undergo a six-month alcohol treatment programme as well as a fifteen-day rehabilitation activity requirement. Her driving ban may be reduced on completion of the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course.
