A Wigan van driver has been spared jail after being caught drink driving while more than four times the legal limit.
Police stopped the 35-year-old after they were suspicious of his ability to drive safely, Wigan and Leigh magistrates heard.
A breathalyser test gave a reading of 153mcg alcohol per 100ml breath. The legal drink driving limit is 35mcg.
Magistrates told the defendant that he had been given a custodial sentence due to the exceptionally high reading, his erratic driving and that he had tried to evade police capture.
After hearing the man plead guilty to drink driving, magistrates sentenced him to 16-weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, ordered him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £209 in costs and charges.
