A High Wycombe man has been handed a suspended sentence and banned from the roads after drink driving and leading police on a chase at speeds of up to 130mph on the M25.
Surrey Police officers saw the 31-year-old driving dangerously on the motorway in Runnymede in the early hours of September 12, 2020.
When police indicated for him to pull over due to his travelling at “excessive speed”, he sped off.
After three separate pursuits along A-roads in the area, police finally stopped the man safely and arrested him on suspicion of dangerous driving, failure to stop and, following a roadside breath test, drink driving.
Investigating Officer, PC Rebecca Blake of Surrey Police, said: “During this incident, [the defendant] was not only over the limit and so his senses were dangerously impaired, but he put other people’s lives at risk with no concern for their safety.
“He recklessly endangered the lives of others and this is something we take extremely seriously in Surrey.”
After pleading guilty to drink driving and dangerous driving at Guildford Crown Court, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 12 months, banned from driving for five years, and must take an extended resit once his ban ends. He must also undertake 250 hours of unpaid work and is under curfew for three months.
