A Wolverhampton man has been banned from driving for 18 months and been handed a fine of £700 after driving at 99mph down the A55 dual carriageway in the West Midlands while under the influence of drugs.
Romario Ispir, 23, admitted to drug driving, speeding, and driving without insurance and without a valid license. He was found to have traces of cannabinoid drugs in his system.
In prosecution, Rhian Jackson told the court that a police officer used a hand-held pro laser device on the vehicle Ispir was driving and found it to be travelling at 99mph in a 70mph zone. He provided a positive drugs test and was found to have 3mg of cannabinoids in his system. The legal limit is 2mg.
Brian Cross, defending, said that a family member had been driving previously but felt unwell, leaving Ispir to take over. He was not familiar with the car or it’s speed.
District Judge Richard Hine said these were serious matters – driving at high speed while under the influence of drugs.
Cross said his client was a young man with no previous convictions, he worked, and would never appear before the court again.
