A 27-year-old mother, Erica Lines, was handed a 12-month driving ban after being found three times over the legal alcohol limit. The incident occurred on March 16 when police pulled Lines over in North Lochside due to erratic driving.
Lines, who resides in Herrislea Court, Tingwall, failed a roadside breath test and was subsequently arrested. At the police station, further tests revealed a breath alcohol level of 74 micrograms per 100 milliliters of breath, far exceeding the legal limit of 22 micrograms.
In court, Lines expressed surprise at the high reading, admitting she had been drinking earlier in the day. Her defense lawyer, Tommy Allan, explained that Lines had been struggling with mental health issues following the loss of a close family member. The incident served as a wake-up call, prompting her to seek help for her mental health and alcohol use.
Despite her remorse and the challenges she faces, including the need to transport her one-year-old child, Sheriff Ian Cruickshank stated he had no choice but to impose the driving ban. The ban can be reduced by three months if Lines completes a drink-driving rehabilitation course. Additionally, she was fined £500.
This case underscores the severe consequences of drink-driving and highlights the importance of mental health support in preventing such incidents.
