Police Officer Faces Sack Over Drink Driving

May 22, 2017

A police officer who was convicted of drink driving and being twice over the limit is facing a misconduct hearing to decide her future with the force.

No specific details have been released about the offence, however, it has been reported how PC Jaqueline Robinson was breathalysed and gave a reading of 75mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit for drink driving in England and Wales is 35mcg.

The prosecuting officer, Caroline Sellers, told the hearing: “he public expect the highest standard of behaviour and expect to have the highest trust in officers on and off duty. If citizens feel there is a loss of trust then confidence (in the police) can be eroded.

“There is a serious message, which Derbyshire Constabulary are keen to stress to the public, in that drink-driving is dangerous and it can lead to people losing their employment and life.”

PC Robinson did not attend the hearing over health grounds but a statement on her behalf was read out. In the statement, she said: “I find myself shattered with everything that has happened and I cannot see me returning to how I was. I was a hard-working individual with ambition and dreams to succeed.

“I’ve been through very dark days and had thought of suicide. The stress had had a severe effect on my health and led to the break-up of my 17-year-old marriage and effectively continued to affect my two young children.”

Chief Constable Mark Creedon, adjourned the hearing to consider the evidence.
