Norwich City footballer Shane Duffy, aged 32, has been charged with driving while unfit through drink following a two-vehicle collision. The incident occurred in Hethersett, near Norwich, late on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Incident Details
Police were called to Queen’s Road, Hethersett, at 21:05 after reports of a collision. Emergency services attended the scene, and Duffy was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving. He was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Legal Proceedings
Duffy, who resides in Norwich Common, Wymondham, was found to have an evidential breath sample of 102 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath, significantly above the legal limit of 35 micrograms. He is scheduled to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on July 2, 2024.

Norwich City Football Club acknowledged the incident involving Duffy, a first-team player, and stated that they are considering the matter internally in line with their disciplinary procedures. The club is currently focused on their upcoming Championship play-off semi-final against Leeds United.
