Newton-le-Willows Woman Charged After Drink-Driving Crash into Railings

A woman has been charged with drink-driving following a car crash into metal railings in Newton-le-Willows.

The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, 18 May, on Fairclough Street in the Earlestown area. At approximately 9.35pm, a black Renault Clio collided with the railings, resulting in damage to both the vehicle and the surrounding structure.

Police attended the scene and arrested a woman on suspicion of driving offences.

Melanie Burnett, aged 36, of Stephenson Road in Newton-le-Willows, was subsequently charged with driving a motor vehicle with alcohol above the legal limit, as well as operating a vehicle without third-party insurance.

She was officially charged on Monday, 19 May, and has since been bailed. Burnett is scheduled to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates’ Court, located at Derby Square in Liverpool, on Friday, 27 June.
