Despite all the publicity, drivers have started to fall foul of the new mobile phone laws right from day one.
In Dorset alone, some 31 drivers had been stopped driving whilst on their mobile phones. Dorset Police reported that one of the drivers stopped was behind the wheel of a 7.5-tonne lorry, who was driving through a round about at the time.
The force also tweeted that they had stopped 11 drivers within the space of 90 minutes.
Kent Police reported that they had stopped 20 motorists in the morning of 1 March. Of those drivers stopped, 12 were for mobile phone offences, 4 for not being in proper control of their vehicle and another 3 for speeding.
Unusually, one driver was stopped on the M20 for seemingly talking to a parrot as his car was seen swerving between lanes.
One driver even had his car seized by police for using his mobile phone, not wearing a seatbelt and driving without insurance.
In their first patrol of the day, Thames Valley Police reported that they had stopped 11 drivers using their mobile phones behind the wheel.
Interestingly, a journalist, who was attending a press event on the launch of the new mobile phone penalties was stopped en route, on his phone and received a fixed penalty of 6 penalty points and a £200 fine.
Police forces across the country will soon release their figures at the end of a week-long, national campaign.
It has already been reported that around 3,600 drivers were handed out the old penalties during a similar initiative last month.
Figures have shown that in 2015, 22 people were killed and 99 seriously injured in accidents where mobile phone usage was a contributory factor.
The Transport Research Laboratory has stated a person responding to a text behind the wheel has double the action time to a person who had been drinking.
An RAC survey has also shown that 26% of drivers have admitted to using social media behind the wheel.
