A 26-year-old man, Ross Wilson, faces severe consequences after being caught driving nearly seven times over the legal alcohol limit. The incident occurred on April 3 in Thurso, where Wilson was spotted driving without lights by a concerned acquaintance who decided to follow him to offer assistance. The acquaintance observed Wilson swerving and veering into the opposite lane as he left Thurso on the A9.
Eventually, Wilson stopped in a passing place, and the concerned motorist helped him reach a nearby house while contacting the police. Upon their arrival, officers found Wilson clearly intoxicated. He was arrested after providing a positive breath test, which revealed an alarming breath-alcohol reading of 141 micrograms per 100 milliliters of breath, significantly higher than the legal limit of 22 micrograms.
Wilson appeared at Wick Sheriff Court, where he admitted to driving with excess alcohol. Sheriff Neil Wilson, who presided over the case, called for a background report on the “potentially dangerous” driver and warned that all sentencing options would be considered when Wilson returns to court on May 29. In the meantime, Ross Wilson has been banned from driving.
