A man who has admitted drink driving could now find his military career in serious jeopardy.
The 26 year old driver, Rollow Wilkinson was caught driving over the drink driving limit on the Esplanade, the Dorchester Chronicle has reported.
Wilkinson was also charged with driving with no insurance.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 1 July 2016, when local CCTV operators saw 2 people who appeared drunk stood close to a car.
Wilkinson was then seen to drive the car and swerving in the road. At one point he crossed the white line.
The police was informed and they soon stopped the car.
Wilkinson was breathalysed and found to give a reading a reading of 67mg of alcohol per 10ml of breath. The current legal limit in England and Wales is 35mg.
In mitigation, the court heard Wilkinson had driven the car as his girlfriend was unwell and vomiting. It was because of this that he couldn’t call a taxi.
It was also said that Wilkinson had been accepted to (Royal Military Academy) Sandhurst and they take a view on convictions that are unspent.
It was submitted that this drink driving conditions may well have a detrimental impact on his career and he may not be able to take his place at Sandhurst.
The court also heard that Wilkinson had an earlier for conviction for drink driving from 2014, when he was disqualified for 18 months.
Sara Saunders, chairman of the bench, said: “You have a great career ahead of you. We are willing to disqualify you for the minimum period.”
Wilkinson was banned for 36 months, with the potential to reduce the ban by 36 weeks if he completes a drink driver rehabilitation course.
