Blackburn Magistrates Court that a man caught drug driving by police had been smoking cannabis at a friend’s party the night before.
Briony Cook, prosecuting, said police noticed the smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle while it was stopped on the forecourt of a petrol station. They stopped the man as he drove off and he admitted that he had smoked cannabis the night before.
A blood test following his arrest confirmed him to be above the legal drug driving limit.
Mitigating, Zabair Afzal told the court: “It was an isolated incident which he bitterly regrets… He assures me he will not be appearing before the courts again.”
After pleading guilty to drug driving he was banned from the roads for 12 months, fined £346 and ordered to pay £85 costs plus a £35 victim surcharge.
