Lorry Driver 3 Times Over The Limit 6 Hours After Crashing

Feb 19, 2017

An HGV driver, who crashed his lorry in Lincoln, was breathalysed 6 hours after the accident and still found to be 3 times of the drink drive limit.

The 40-year-old driver from Poland, Tomasz Kogut, appeared before Lincoln Magistrates Court charged with dangerous driving.

The court heard how a witness, Mr Heath, stated he had followed Kogut for around 30 minutes, watching him swerve repeatedly to the left.

Mr Heath, whose statement was read to the court, stated: “He suddenly went over to the left side again more than two-thirds of the vehicle went over the grass verge.

“Incredibly he managed to get the lorry back onto the carriageway.

“By now the road was covered in mud and grass that had been thrown up from the lorry.

“The lorry got back onto the road driving past the speed camera.

“However he quickly lost control going off on the left-hand side just missing the speed camera and went straight onto the grass verge again.

“This time he went into a tree.

“I thought the driver was going to be in a bad way.”

Following his conviction for the offence, his case was transferred to the crown court for sentence as the Magistrates did not believe their sentencing powers were sufficient.
