A kebab shop in Edinburgh faces the prospect of losing its late-night operating licence following a series of drink driving convictions linked to its licence holder.
Licence Renewal Opposed by Police Scotland
The City of Edinburgh Council licensing committee heard objections from Police Scotland in connection with a renewal application submitted by Segvan Sitki. Officers told councillors that Mr Sitki had been convicted of five offences connected to drink driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice, arising from three separate incidents in 2023 and 2024.
The George IV Bridge Collision
One of the incidents involved a collision on George IV Bridge on 8 January. According to police, Mr Sitki struck another vehicle before leaving the scene and subsequently denied any involvement in the collision after entering the nearby kebab shop. Officers later traced him, at which point he refused a roadside breath test and was arrested.
Sergeant Grant Robertson told the committee: “The applicant collided with a black car on George IV Bridge after driving, while flashing the light and sounding the horn.” He added that Mr Sitki appeared so intoxicated he was “unable to speak coherently.”
Court Outcome
At Edinburgh Sheriff Court on 10 September, Mr Sitki was fined £600, ordered to pay a £40 victim surcharge, and disqualified from driving for 36 months. He was also admonished for attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Police additionally informed the committee of two further incidents involving refusals to provide breath samples, including one case in which a vehicle was allegedly abandoned following a collision.
Decision Postponed
Mr Sitki was represented at the hearing by solicitor Alistair Macdonald, who requested additional time to consult with his client, who had recently returned to the United Kingdom. The licensing committee agreed to defer its final decision to a future hearing.
Should the renewal application ultimately be refused, the premises would no longer be permitted to operate after 11pm.
