A lorry driver has been jailed for three months after he was caught drink driving following reports from the public that he was driving “slowly” and “all over the carriageway”.
Peterborough Magistrates heard that police from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire (BCH) Roads Policing Unit (RPU) tracked down the lorry and subsequently pulled it over.
After giving a roadside reading of 90, they arrested the driver on suspicion of drink driving who then went on to give a reading of 122mcg alcohol per 100ml breath once in custody. The legal limit is 35mcg per 100ml breath.
PC Shaz Ali from the RPU said: “[The defendant] had glazed eyes, was unsteady on his feet and had to be held up to prevent him falling over. He showed no remorse for his actions and the potential consequences of driving a 40-tonne lorry while more than three times over the limit.
“Drink driving is one of the fatal four causes of collisions on our roads and the sentence given reflects how seriously the court takes these offences.
“Thank you to the member of the public who called this driver in.”
After pleading guilty to drink driving magistrates sentenced him to three months in prison, imposed a fine of £360 and banned him from driving for three years.
