An off-duty policewoman who caused a fatal car crash, whilst she was over the drink driving limit has been jailed for 9 years.
The 41-year-old officer, Ellie MacSherry, admitted causing the death of a 49-year-old father of 2 by pleading guilty to counts of dangerous driving and drink driving.
She also pleaded guilty to a throw count of failing to stop following a collision with another vehicle, shortly before the fatal crash.
The court heard how cars had to swerve out of her way as she entered a 40mph limit travelling at around 80mph, on the wrong side of the carriageway.
Despite being over the drink driving limit, she was found to have taken a number of prescription drugs which were said to have significantly impaired her driving.
The court further heard how, at the time of the crash, MacSherry was wearing her pyjamas, dressing gown and slippers.
