A motorist has been jailed for more than 17 years after causing the deaths of two men while driving at excessive speed and under the influence of alcohol.
Isidoro Olim, 35, was convicted of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving following a collision on City Way in Rochester in October 2022.
The court heard that Olim had been drinking before getting behind the wheel of his BMW 118i. At the time of the collision, he was travelling at speeds of up to 77mph in a 30mph zone, braking to around 65mph shortly before impact.
The victims’ vehicle, a Skoda, was pulling out of a driveway when it was struck by Olim’s car. Two men in their 50s died at the scene, while two other occupants suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital.
Investigators found that had Olim been travelling within the 30mph limit, he would have been able to stop in time and avoid the collision.
Following the crash, Olim initially denied being the driver and attempted to attribute responsibility to his partner. He later admitted he had been behind the wheel after evidence contradicted his account.
He was charged with multiple offences, including causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
At Maidstone Crown Court, Olim changed his plea to guilty and was sentenced on 30 March 2026 to 17 years and two months’ imprisonment.
His partner, Isabel Nunes, was also sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment after being convicted of attempting to pervert the course of justice by feigning injury and deleting phone records.
Detective Constable Hannah Mungeam said: “Olim’s reckless decision to drive having consumed alcohol and above the speed limit has resulted in two families suffering the immeasurable loss of their loved ones.
“His initial attempt to deny being the driver, and his willingness to shift the blame onto his partner, demonstrated a complete lack of remorse and an unwillingness to accept responsibility for the devastation he caused.
“However, the weight of the evidence against him left him with no choice but to admit the offences.”
The case highlights the severe custodial penalties associated with dangerous driving offences, particularly where alcohol and excessive speed combine to produce fatal consequences.
