Jul 19, 2016

It has been reported that former England Captain Ray Wilkins, has been ordered to attend court to enter his guilty plea to drink driving in person.

Mr Wilkins failed to attend his court hearing as he is undergoing a period of rehabilitation at the Priory Clinic, a court was told.

It is understood that Wilkins intended to plead guilty to the offence and understood that he may well face a prison sentence in light of like earlier offences.

His barrister applied to the court for a 6-week adjournment but this was denied by the bench following submissions by the prosecution.

The court ordered that he now appears before them on 25 July 2016.

Wilkins had been in the Priory since his arrest for drink driving on 1 July 2016.

The court heard that he had been driving his car but had been stopped by a fellow motorist as he was weaving around the road.

It is understood that Wilkins had been attending a charity golf day.

The motorist then took Wilkins’ keys and called the police.

The case continues.
