Bury Drink Driver Was Four Times Legal Limit At New Year

Mar 9, 2021

Greater Manchester Magistrates Court has heard that a Bury man was more than four times the drink driving limit when police pulled him over on December 31, 2020.

Officers stopped the car after they saw it being driven “unusually” in the town. When they came to breathalyse the driver, it registered “value exceeded”, meaning the alcohol level was too high for the roadside device to measure.

Once arrested and in custody, the 33-year-old driver gave a reading of 132mcg alcohol per 100ml breath. The legal drink driving limit is 35mcg.

Officers also found that the driver did not have a valid driving licence, and his vehicle was uninsured.

After pleading guilty to drink driving, driving without insurance, and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, magistrates imposed a fine of £280 and banned him from driving for 40 months. He must also complete a six-month alcohol treatment programme as part of his rehabilitation activity requirement.

The car was destroyed.
