A taxi driver in Burnley was arrested on New Year’s Eve after failing a roadside breath test at a police checkpoint. Lancashire Police set up the checkpoint on Colne Road to catch drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
The taxi driver was one of the few who did not pass the test, providing a breath sample with an alcohol level of 56 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath, well above the legal limit of 35. The police expressed surprise at the driver’s positive result and promptly arrested him.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of drink-driving, particularly during festive periods when the risk of such offences tends to increase. Despite this arrest, the majority of drivers stopped at the checkpoint passed the breath test, demonstrating responsible behaviour on the roads.
Lancashire Police continue to emphasise the importance of road safety and the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They encourage the public to report any suspicious driving behaviour to help keep the roads safe for everyone.
