A woman has been disqualified from driving and sentenced to a community order after crashing into a parked caravan less than 200 metres from Newark railway station, having consumed alcohol during a train journey.
Heather Allmond, 38, of Marshalls Rise, Gainsborough, appeared before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court where she pleaded guilty to drink-driving and driving without due care and attention.
The incident occurred on 2 May 2024. Nottinghamshire Police were called to Lincoln Street shortly after 6pm, where Allmond’s vehicle had collided with a stationary caravan. The car became lodged underneath the vehicle, and she was assisted from the wreckage by members of the public.
Allmond had consumed alcohol while travelling on a train from London to Newark and proceeded to drive shortly after arriving at the station.
She was taken to hospital for precautionary checks before being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was subsequently charged and later entered guilty pleas to both offences.
At sentencing, Allmond was handed a 12-month community order and disqualified from driving for one year. She was also ordered to complete 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days, pay a £114 fine, and cover £1,000 in court costs.
A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson stated that Allmond was fortunate the incident did not result in serious injury and highlighted the potential risk posed to both herself and others.
