A teenager in Southampton has been fined after being caught drink-driving—not in a car, but while riding a Voi e-scooter.
The case was heard at Southampton Magistrates’ Court, where the rider admitted being over the legal alcohol limit while using the rental scooter.
Although often seen as a casual and convenient way to get around, e-scooters are legally treated as motor vehicles. That means the same rules apply—anyone caught riding one while under the influence can face the same penalties as if they were driving a car.
The court handed the teen a fine, underlining the point that drink-driving laws apply across all motorised transport, no matter how small or modern.
