A Barrow woman has been taken off the road for more than two years after she was caught driving with nearly three times the legal alcohol limit in her system.
Shannon Macadie, 29, from Roose Road, was stopped by police on Sidney Street, Barrow, on 28 June this year. Officers carried out a roadside breath test, which showed a reading of 103 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit? Just 35.
Macadie admitted the offence at her first court appearance on 30 June, which worked in her favour when it came to sentencing. On 30 July, South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court handed her a 12-month community order.
That means she must:

Complete a three-month alcohol treatment programme through Recovery Steps

Carry out 100 hours of unpaid work

Take part in 10 days of rehabilitation activities
She’s also banned from driving for 25 months, ordered to pay £85 in court costs, and a £114 victim surcharge—both to be taken directly from her benefits.
For Macadie, the message from the court was clear: drinking and driving isn’t just dangerous—it’s costly in more ways than one.
