Solicitor Banned from Driving After Refusing Roadside Breath Test

Mar 14, 2025

A solicitor has been disqualified from driving for 12 months after declining to provide a roadside breath sample. The incident occurred when police officers stopped her vehicle on suspicion of drink-driving. Upon request, she refused to take the breath test, leading to her arrest and subsequent charge.

In court, the solicitor pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen for analysis. The magistrates imposed a 12-month driving ban and fined her £500. Additionally, she was ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £50 victim surcharge.

The court highlighted that refusing to provide a breath sample is a serious offence, carrying the same penalties as a drink-driving conviction. Motorists are reminded of their legal obligation to comply with such requests from law enforcement to ensure road safety.
