A Newmarket resident, Vaishakh Nair, has been banned from driving for 40 months following a drink-driving offence that revealed him nearly twice over the legal limit. The incident occurred in August when the 35-year-old, who resides on Nimbus Way, was stopped by police on Fordham Road in Newmarket. Officers conducted a breathalyser test on Nair, which showed a reading of 66 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath—well above the UK’s legal limit of 35 micrograms.
Appearing in Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Nair received his sentence, which includes a 40-month driving ban. Additionally, the court imposed financial penalties amounting to £763, covering fines, court costs, and a victim surcharge.
This significant ban highlights the strict measures enforced against drink-driving and serves as a warning to other drivers about the potential consequences of such offences.
