Former Wales rugby international and 2005 Grand Slam winner Dafydd Jones has pleaded guilty to a drink-driving charge. The 44-year-old appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, where he admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol earlier that month.
On January 11, Jones was found driving a Ford Ranger on the A40 at Bancyfelin with 71mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, more than double the legal limit of 35mg. His address was listed as Llwynhenry and Porthyrhyd.
The court handed Jones an 18-month driving ban, which can be reduced if he completes a rehabilitation course by January 2025. In addition to the driving ban, Jones was fined £692 and ordered to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £362, due by March 26, 2024.
Jones, who made over 40 appearances for Wales during his rugby career and was part of the team that won the Grand Slam in 2005, retired in 2011. Since then, he has worked as a pundit for S4C.
This incident serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of drink-driving and the importance of adhering to legal limits to ensure the safety of all road users.
