A man who was banned from the roads for drug driving has been jailed for dangerous driving after he led police on a high-speed chase immediately after his ban was handed down.
He was originally arrested in August 2022 on suspicion of drug driving and appeared before Harrogate magistrates in March 2023 where he was banned from the roads for 12 months.
Immediately after that hearing, he got into his car and drove off.
He was quickly spotted by North Yorkshire Police, however, he failed to stop as instructed, instead leading them on a high-speed chase at up to 145mph along the A59, A1(M) and the A6055.
It wasn’t until colleagues deployed a stinger to deflate the man’s tyres that he was eventually stopped and apprehended.
Traffic Sergeant Paul Cording, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “It is extremely fortunate that no one was injured as a result of [the defendant’s] actions. Not only did he put other road users at huge risk due to the dangerous manner of his driving, but he also showed a complete disregard for the judicial system.”
He appeared at York Crown Court on 11 May after pleading guilty to driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, and failing to stop. He was jailed for 10 months.
