A Hereford woman has lost her licence following a drug driving conviction after she took drugs for the first time.
Magistrates in the city heard that police spotted the 34-year-old driving her black Audi on the A49, with officers pulling her over and asking her to take a roadside drug swipe.
The swipe came back positive, and, following her arrest, a blood sample found her to have 800mcg of cocaine by-product benzoylecgonine (BZE) per litre of blood. The legal limit for drug driving is 50mcg.
Acting on the woman’s behalf, Marilena Di Vitantonio told the court that her client had cooperated with police fully during the process and pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.
“She tells me she had been out with friends and had gone to a house party, where she took cocaine,” said Miss Di Vitantonio.
“She has never done this in her life and does not wish to repeat it. She knows she will now be banned for a minimum of 12 months and she will no longer be employed following her conviction today, as she will definitely lose her job as a result.”
Taking into account her early plea to drug driving, magistrates fined the woman £120 and banned her from the roads for 12 months. She must also pay £135 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
