A mum-of-three has been banned from driving after police caught her drink driving following a “domestic disturbance” that she had called them to investigate.
Prosecuting, Jackie Coley-Fisher told Magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre: “Officers attended at her home address following a domestic disturbance. They spoke to Miss Bristow when they arrived and established her husband had left the address.
“Officers conducted an area search but could not locate him in the area. When they returned to the address, they saw Miss Bristow driving her vehicle back to the address.
“Police suspected she was under the influence of alcohol and a breath test was taken.”
Following her arrest on suspicion of drink driving, an evidential sample found her to have 98mcg alcohol per 100ml breath – more than twice the legal limit of 35mcg.
The 29-year-old had been out to purchase more alcohol while police conducted the area search for her husband.
Chairman of the bench, Paul Veal, told the woman: “You called the police, the police turned up. You left the house to buy more alcohol.
“You were a danger not only to yourself, but to every road user out that night. You could have killed yourself or someone else.”
After hearing her plead guilty to drink driving, magistrates banned her from driving for 24 months and handed her an 18-month community order with 80 hours unpaid work and a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement. She must also pay £230 in court costs and charges.
The woman’s ban may be reduced on completion of the drink-drive rehabilitation course.
