A drink driving chef, who had been working on a farm during lockdown, has lost his job after he crashed his car while under the influence of alcohol.
Prosecuting, Mark Hambling told magistrates in Hereford that police attended the scene of a crash near Leominster just before 11pm on November 28.
The defendant admitted that he was the driver and had been drinking. He failed a roadside breath test and following his arrest was found to have 83mcg alcohol per 100ml breath. The legal drink driving limit is 35mcg.
The 28-year-old also had a conviction for drink driving from 2017 when he was disqualified.
Mitigating, George Cousins said that his client had driven after receiving a call from a friend.
“He was interviewed by police and accepted he was the driver and that he had been drinking,” Mr Cousins said.
“He lost his job as a chef in lockdown and has been working as a tractor driver on a farm since then, but he has now lost that job too due to this offence.”
After hearing the man plead guilty to drink driving, magistrates imposed fines of £120 and banned him from driving for three years. He must also pay costs of £125 and a £34 victim surcharge.
