It has been reported in the press how drink driving deaths are on the rise due to people driving “the morning after” a night out drinking.
Department of Transport figures from 2015 showed that 1,380 people were killed, or seriously injured as a result of drink driving. Those figures showed a 5% rise from the precious year.
It was also shown how casualties caused by drink driving had risen by 3% to 8,480.
Police officers had carried out some 520,219 roadside breath tests during 2015, with more than 60,000 drivers either failing that test or refusing to take it.
Hunter Abbott, Managing Director of AlcoSense stated: “There’s a wide misunderstanding about how long alcohol can stay in the system the morning after. Sleeping does not hit a ‘reset’ button – you process alcohol at the same rate whether you’re awake or asleep.
“So it’s easier than you think to unintentionally drink drive the next morning, or to drive unaware that there is still enough alcohol in your system to dramatically increase your chances of being in a fatal road accident.”
