A dangerous driver who was driving after taking cocaine, has been jailed for 18 months.
Bolton Crown Court has heard that 43 year old Paul Battersby had been convicted for dangerous driving twice before this latest offence.
And on this latest occasion he had taken cocaine before getting behind the wheel.
After pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, drug driving, driving without insurance and possession of a class C drug, the court heard that Battersby had been driving to pick up his daughter from her after school club.
During this journey, police saw Battersby driving though a no entry sign and attempted to stop him.
Despite police requests, Battersby turned sharply in front of another vehicle, drove over a number of mini roundabouts and failed to stop at red traffic lights. He also weaved in and out of traffic and drove against on coming vehicles.
Owing to traffic conditions, the police lost sight of Battersby but pedestrians pointed to where he had run off and was found hiding in bushes.
Battersby was then arrested.
In sentencing Battersby, the Judge watched a 10 minute video of his driving and stated: “How other motorists avoided a grave collision with you it’s difficult to imagine.”
Furthermore, in sentencing Battersby to 18 months in prison, the Judge added: “It’s quite clear that you are someone who commits crime habitually and whenever it suits.”
