A Canadian driver who turned herself in after being filmed texting at the wheel, has been charged with a number of offences.
Although this is hot off the presses from Canada, it shows just how prevalent texting and driving can be.
The video was taken by 25 year old motorcyclist, Erik Hanna.
Hanna was riding his motorbike when he pulled up beside the unknown female motorists who was driving a Hummer.
The video shows the woman, head down and texting whilst the traffic lights are on red.
Hanna taps on her window a first time, which is ignored by the woman. He then taps a second time and she looks up to see if the lights have turned to green.
As the lights change, Hanna motors away and is the nearly hit by the woman as she passes him moments later.
Following this near collision, Hanna follows the driver to the next set of lights and confronts her.
The film hears Hanna saying: “I got it all on camera. You on the phone, you cutting me off, everything.”
“It’s all recording right now. I’m going to the police. I’ll follow you wherever you want to go. All right? Let’s go.”
The woman gives and inaudible response and Hanna then says: “No that’s dangerous to my life. That’s dangerous to other people’s lives. This is the best thing I can do right now.
“So let’s get to the police right now, still recording.”
The woman then rolls up her window and drives away.
Hanna uploaded the video to Facebook and also turned it over to the police for their investigations.
The woman driver, who is still un named, turned herself in to Canadian authorities and has been charged with careless driving, distracted driving and failing to notify a change of address.
