A Scottish teenager who caused the death of his friend through dangerous driving has received a 2 year prison sentence.
The 18 year old, Adam Youngson was driving on a secluded road when his car struck a tree.
The Court heard that Youngson was driving his red Ford Fiesta when another friend and driver, Scott Neil, drove his car close to the back of Youngson’s.
When Youngson saw this car travelling so close he reacted by speeding up and accelerating away.
Despite calls from his passengers for him to slow down, Youngson continued to drive ay high speeds until his lost control of his car.
It should be noted that Youngson had only passed his driving text some 4 months before the accident.
The deceased was called William Sangster and was a rear seat passenger in Youngsons car at the time of the accident.
Emergency services that attended the scene had to cut Mr Sangster from the car whereafter he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In sentencing both Youngson and Neil the presiding Judge, Lady Wolffe stated: “This is a sad and difficult case. You will both have to carry the burden of your actions for the rest of your lives.”
Youngson was sentenced to 2 years custody and was banned from driving for 6 years.
For his part Neil was sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid work and an 18 month driving ban.
