Police in Aylesbury have reported how they caught 5 people drink-driving on the same street in a period of only 4 and half hours.
The operation was part of the Thames Valley Police Summer Drink Driving Campaign. It took place on Walton Street, Aylesbury, between 7pm and 11.30pm on Saturday 17 June 2017.
The operation was led by Roads Policing officers from the Hampshire and Thames Valley Joint Operations Unit and officers from the Special Constabulary. In total, some 105 cars were stopped and 5 drivers arrested for drink driving.
The 5 drivers arrested were 4 men, aged between 22 and 52 and 1 woman, aged 36. All 5 drivers were released on bail to appear at court.
In addition to the 5 arrests for drink driving, 5 vehicles were seized for document offences, 4 drivers were reported for a variety of driving offences and 12 traffic offence notices were issued.
Roads Policing officer Sergeant Tom Smith, who coordinated Saturday’s operation, said: “Drink driving pose a significant risk to public safety with around 1,300 people across the UK being killed or seriously injured each year in accidents involving motorists under the influence of alcohol.
“We will continue to conduct these operations both during and after the summer campaign and any driver caught faces an obligatory disqualification of at least a year.”
