A woman has appeared at Carlisle’s Rickergate magistrates court charged with drink driving after a member of the public saw her walking to her car while intoxicated.
Magistrates heard that a witness contacted police to say that a woman appeared to have left her car in a Tesco car park while intoxicated, and then saw her return to the car with more drink in a shopping bag.
Representing the woman, Sara Budniak explained that the woman had drunk three glasses of Baileys and had only driven a short distance from her home to the shop, and did not realise she was over the drink driving limit.
Tests following a roadside breath test found the woman to have 83mcg alcohol per 100ml breath – more than twice the legal limit of 35mcg.
The court also heard that the woman had several problems with drugs over the last few years but was now clear of drugs and getting her life back on track.
After pleading guilty to drink driving and driving without a licence or insurance, magistrates banned her from driving for 20 months and imposed a fine of £140 plus £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
